Abstract
Qualitative methods can perfectly complement both quantitative and participatory methods in any social sciences. The qualitative interview is flexible and dynamic and has been referred to as nondirective, unstructured, non-standardized and open-ended. Qualitative research is a repetitive process in which data-collecting, data-recording, data-analysis, reflections and generating new questions are part of a continuous comparative effort. This paper describes the main characteristics of interview as a scientific instrument, and then identifies the most used types of interview. It also presents the qualitative interview as the best option in interviewing immigrants, who are known as balancing between two worlds: social and individual. Of course, there are strengths and weak points for qualitative interview as there are valid suggestions for interviewing immigrants.
