Abstract

The White Tiger displays one of the darkest approaches to urban contemporary life: the average, insubstantial man killing in order to procure money and start life on his own – no excuse and no remorse, only the trajectory of his deeds. Adiga portraysIndia – but we can broaden geographical limits – in one of its plausible conditions: a territory in which human involution is possible and manifests itself, a land not of dreams and Light, but of a hurting and present Darkness. The reader may be horrified at first, yet the very next moment he can start counting individuals that fit into the outlandish pattern of Balram Halwai’s beast-like existence.
