Abstract
Le Voyage de Saint Brendan est un texte hagiographique du IXe siècle, repris les siècles suivants, et qui se prête à des analyses multiples. Dans les pages ci-dessous, j’isolerai les instances les plus significatives de ce voyage, du point de vue de la symbolique chrétienne, car on a affaire à un voyage vers le Paradis. Les messagers, la nourriture, les supports, l’eau vive, plus douce que le vin sucré, la baleine, les oiseaux magiques forment, ensemble, un univers de rêve qui contribue à la création d’un Paradis particulier.
Abstract
The Journey of Saint Brendan is a text of the IXth century, taken back the next centuries, and which lends itself to multiple analyses. In the pages below, I shall isolate the most significant authorities of this journey, from the point of view of the Christian symbolism, because we talk about a journey towards the Paradise. The messengers, the food, the support, the running water, softer than the sweet wine, the whale, the magic birds form a dream world which contributes to the creation of a particular Paradise.
