More than one thousand years ago in France, « dreaming » and « going insane » had the same radical « esver » that expressed the meanderness of our minds. The elders seemed to have seen a correlation that today in modern French seems lost. We will look at a semiology of the dreamer’s conditions and their similarities with certain mental disorders. We will thus sketch the idea of a nosology of the dream. We propose three conjectures: the mechanisms of certain psychiatric disorders are identical with the state of the dreamer within his dream; the dream precedes reality in the development of the psychic apparatus ; certain mental disorders could be the invasions of the dream in the reality of the subject in the waking state – they could be reminders of primary mechanisms, an attempt at equilibrium or healing.
