Abstract

The aim of this paper is to explore and analyse Rodica Braga`s self-fictionalization strategies, revealed in her autofiction, Anul 2000. Simple exerciții de sinceritate [The Year 2000. Simple Exercises of Sincerity].  Rodica Braga, a contemporary Romanian complex writer, with creations embracing various “forms” of expression (poetry, prose, children`s literature and religious texts) has been publishing various literary texts often crossing the borders between reality and fiction, in which the author turns into an entity, an alter ego, present in her own fictions. Rodica Braga`s autofiction Anul 2000. Simple exerciții de sinceritate [The Year 2000. Simple Exercises of Sincerity] employs various strategies of self-fictionalization such as meta-narrative comments, internal dialogue, the onomastic identity shared by both the author and one of the characters, which creates a fictional double. Thus, she reveals a strong desire to truly reveal herself and, at the same time, recreates her own reality and her own life, in a never-ending quest of self-knowledge and understanding. In order to illustrate the self-fictionalization process and to illustrate my hypothesis, I chose to present the theories of some pioneers of this literary genre and then, make use of them to examine the self-fictionalization strategies employed in Rodica Braga`s autofiction Anul 2000. Simple exerciții de sinceritate [The Year 2000. Simple Exercises of Sincerity].
