Abstract

In the broad field of Cultural Studies, there has been a growing interest in the interrelationship between culture and identity. It is an established fact that, in the era of globalization and secularization, when people are assaulted by anti-traditional ideologies, the traditional values seem to be eroded. Translation as an act of cross-cultural communication attempts to establish, on the one hand, mediation between the traditional values of each culture and, a bond between the cultures involved, on the other hand. The translator must be faithful to the tradition from which he translates, to the language into which he translates and to many other canons. Thus, the translator’s cultural knowledge, competence creative ability and intuitive feeling for text are very important factors in the process of translation.
